About EBC Brakes

In business for more than 40 years, UK based EBC Brakes has become a global leader in the braking aftermarket and boasts the biggest range of aftermarket brakes on the planet. Covering everything from 1960’s classics to modern supercars, superminis to super-sized trucks, casual trackday goers to professional endurance racers, EBC has a range of brake upgrades to suit any vehicle and budget.

EBC sells over 1 million brake pads globally each year and every single brake pad is proudly manufactured in EBC’s own factory in Bristol, United Kingdom. EBC’s brake pads employ numerous innovative technologies that ensure world-leading quality, with one such technology being NRS backplates. Although hidden beneath the friction material, the backplate of every EBC brake pad employs hundreds of tiny NRS ‘hooks’ that vastly increase the bond strength between the friction material and the backing plate. This method of mechanical retention completely eliminates the chance of a ‘friction de-bond’, meaning the brake pad maintains its integrity even if run right down to the backing plate. NRS backplates are usually the reserve of OE pads, yet EBC Brakes is pleased to be one of the few manufacturers bringing this level of quality and safety to the braking aftermarket.

EBC’s innovative brake pad formulations have also received the highest ‘N’ rating, meaning they contain zero heavy metals, zero asbestos, and zero copper, providing a clear environmental advantage to both humans and marine life (where studies in the USA have shown copper particles in brake wear debris to become washed into the rivers/oceans and cause harm to marine life). EBC Brakes doesn’t just care about braking performance, EBC also cares deeply about environmental sustainability.

100% of EBC’s brake rotor range uses a ‘high-carbon’ metallurgy, providing excellent thermal capacity and resistance to cracking, even under the most extreme driving conditions. Unlike some other brake rotor manufacturers, EBC sees zero benefit in offering a ‘lower performance’ or ‘low-carbon’ brake rotor range, since this can decrease brake rotor life & performance yet shaves mere cents off the manufacture cost. Instead, EBC chooses to manufacture some of the highest quality aftermarket brake rotors on the planet and this quality is assured by EBC’s extensive suite of TUV and R90 approvals across its brake rotor range.

EBC brake rotors are GEOMET® dipped to protect the entire rotor surface from corrosion, including internal cooling vanes, then any non-contact areas are sprayed black to provide an OE-like aesthetic.

EBC Racing’s 2-piece brake rotors utilise stainless-steel hardware, hard anodised bells and feature handed curved-vanes, making them some of the finest quality brake rotors available at any price-point.

About Australian Design Rules (ADRs)

Car enthusiasts in Australia are acutely aware of ADRs and how vehicle modifications are strictly regulated. With brakes being a safety critical system, its unsurprising that the ADRs contain pages and pages of regulations governing what brake modifications are allowed and which brake modifications require a VSCCS certificate. What is surprising however is how ‘forgetful’ (ahem) some other brake manufacturers and resellers are when it comes to clearly stating whether or not a specific brake pad/rotor complies with ADRs, and thus whether they are road legal in Australia. Below is a summary of where you stand with ADRs when fitting aftermarket brakes, however if you’d like to learn more then check out our full-length blog on ADR brake compliance here.

The Summary…

For every brake pad listed on fitebc.com you’ll see a Road Legal:  or  classification. If there’s a tick, the brake pad is R90 approved and thus totally legal to be used on the public roads throughout Australia, with no need to do a VSCCS safety inspection. If there’s a cross, the brake pad is not R90 approved and therefore is not legal for use on the public road in Australia (i.e. the brake pad is for track use only) unless you take your vehicle to a VSCCS licenced certifier to approve the brake modification. EBC’s entire brake rotor range is both TUV and R90 approved and thus all EBC brake rotors are road legal in Australia.
